Install the Webcric APK on Android

Webcric is not on the Play Store, so the app comes as an APK file from this page. Downloading and installing it takes about two minutes, and the phone will ask for one permission along the way.

You may not need this page.

For most phones, adding Webcric to the home screen is quicker: no file, no permissions, half a minute.

This page is for when that did not work, or when you specifically want the APK.

1Download the file

Tap the button above.

Chrome shows a warning that files of this type can harm your device. It shows the same warning for every app that is not from the Play Store. Tap Download anyway.

2Open it

When the download is done, tap Open in the notification.

Missed the notification? Open the Files (or Downloads) app and tap webcric.apk in the Downloads folder.

3Give the permission and install

The phone says it is not allowed to install unknown apps from this source. Every phone says this the first time.

Tap Settings in that message, switch on Allow from this source, then go back.

Tap Install.

If Google Play Protect adds its own warning, tap More details and then Install anyway.

No message, or the switch is greyed out?

The same permission can be switched on from Settings. Choose your phone:

Samsung

Settings → Apps → three dots (top right) → Special access → Install unknown apps

Switch on the app that opened the file, normally Chrome or My Files.

Xiaomi / Redmi / Poco

Settings → Privacy protection → Special permissions → Install unknown apps

Switch on the app that opened the file, normally Chrome or File Manager.

Oppo / Realme / OnePlus

Settings → Privacy → Special app access → Install unknown apps

Switch on the app that opened the file, normally Chrome or Files.

Other Android phones

Settings → Apps → Special app access → Install unknown apps

Switch on the app that opened the file, normally Chrome or Files.

Quickest of all: open Settings and search for unknown.

✓That's it

Webcric is in your app list and on the home screen. Open it and pick a match, as on the website.

If it does not go to plan

The permission is on, and the install is still blocked

The permission is tied to the app that opened the file, not the one that downloaded it. Downloaded in Chrome but opened from Files? Then it is Files that needs the switch.

Go back to the phone list in step 3 and switch on that app.

"App not installed"

An older Webcric app already on the phone blocks the new one: uninstall it first. If there is no older one, the phone is probably short of space; remove something you do not use and try again.

The downloaded file is nowhere to be found

It is in the Downloads folder of the Files app, named webcric.apk.
